The war in the Middle East is also affecting Austria’s gas and energy market. The escalation between the US, Israel and Iran has pushed wholesale gas prices in Europe up significantly in part. Bombings do not bring peace, stability or democracy. They did not do so in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan or Syria, nor do they do so in Iran. 1/5 🧵👇

It has now been a year since the loser coalition from ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS started their chaos project. A year of suffering, a year of sacrificing neutrality like never before, a year of wasting money and time, a year of overconfidence, loss of groundedness and hubris. In short: a bad year for Austria. Time to settle the score with this loser group properly. 📺 Tune in – TODAY, Tuesday, at 10 p.m. on ORF 2.

I support the announcement of providing missile‑ and drone‑defense systems to our Cypriot friends. It is an honour for France to respond to Nicosia’s request for support after its aggression by Tehran and its proxies. With our Greek, German, and British allies, we are meeting Cyprus’s legitimate need for protection, which hosts a base already targeted by three Iranian‑made drone attacks. I emphasize that Turkey’s occupation of half the island constitutes a strategic vulnerability for our continent, especially in this period of war. While the Middle East is on fire, France and Europe must weigh all their weight in the Mediterranean and the Levant. We must ensure the safety of our citizens present in the conflict‑affected areas. I am thinking especially of the French in Israel and Lebanon, who have already endured months of intense tension, as well as those caught in uncertainty in Dubai and elsewhere. I offer all my support to the French military who are or will be deployed in the area to honour our international commitments and defend our allies. The ongoing events in the Middle East carry contrasting feelings: hopes here of liberation from the oppression of the mollahs and their militias, fears elsewhere of a spiral of chaos that would add horror to horror. We cannot remain indifferent to the future of a region whose developments will have direct consequences for our continent, in terms of security, combating migration flows, and geopolitics. European leaders must be present in this crisis to protect their peoples. They must engage directly with their American and Israeli counterparts, as well as all our regional partners, to best anticipate the consequences of this new configuration, rather than hiding behind an “international law” now neglected by international powers that no longer feel bound by multilateralism. European impotence and isolation cannot last when European interests and territory are directly targeted. As we become the forgotten ones of the 21st century, we must finally reconnect with a policy of military, economic, and civilizational power, while affirming our political will inside and on the international stage. Suffering cannot become our destiny. __📲 Relay on X! 👉 Join Identité Libertés

Energy security is Europe’s economic security. When tensions rise, prices jump and confidence falls. The answer is not new dependencies, but faster electrification, renewables and efficiency. The real risk is moving slow. The clean transition is Europe’s shield against volatility. At the #EIB today.

Yesterday it succeeded in the key committee to reject Chat Control 1.0 – a temporary exception that allows mass scanning of private messages. But we haven’t won yet. Next week we have a vote in the plenary and it will be tight. Some MEPs need to remind that “my private message is my business.”

Thank you MEP Sergey Lagodinsky & @boell.de for organising very meaningful discussion on European Security Council: Cockpit for the EU? Pleased to see discussions gaining momentum. We need long term transformation of European defence, which requires a shift in our political mindset.

Hauser: “Even the WHO distances itself from the EU’s political and ineffective coercive measures during Corona.” “It therefore needs even more a seamless clarification of the consequences and the political reasons behind the disastrous Corona measures of the EU and the nation‑states.” 🟢 Regarding the FPÖ PM My comment: Remarkable how the WHO now withdraws from responsibility – and in doing so pulls the ground from under the feet of those politicians who have hidden behind it for years. One should remember: Ignazio Cassis, for example, justified the practice of counting deaths as COVID deaths in a blanket manner, citing WHO recommendations. Politics has repeatedly invoked these recommendations – and now acts as if it had not borne its own responsibility. The problem was never only a lack of proportionality. Many of these measures were not merely questionable, but actively destructive – and they benefited especially those who profited from vaccine marketing. Calling these measures “foolish” would be an understatement – more accurate: destructive, and with intent. Not a single day passes without the Justice issuing an incomprehensible judgment. The collapse on appeal of the sentences of those who led to the beheading of Samuel Paty by the jihadist Anzorov is a catastrophe. All French people sympathize with the professor's family, who are once again being tested. __📲 Share on X!
