Great to be back in Cyprus for the informal Environment Council. An important start to the mission with a meeting with Minister Maria Panayiotou. We discussed key climate priorities, from strengthening climate resilience to shaping the EU’s strategy for COP31.

Slovenia can gain a lot from European space and defence industry ramp up, and our joint efforts to boost innovation and research. At the meeting with Robert Golob, Prime Minister of Slovenia, we had an opportunity to share views on Europe’s future.

We announced a set of measures to help manage energy prices under the ETS on buildings and road transport set to kick-in in 2027. Today we’re delivering on one of these measures by fast-tracking investment to low and middle-income households and small businesses.

In a changing geopolitical environment we need a strong and united Europe. In conversation with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, it was good to hear views on EU enlargement, regional and international developments, and share insights on European defence.

Further strengthening the security of our neighbors means further strengthening the EU‘s security. And Montenegro is a key partner in managing the EU‘s external borders, with nearly 180 Frontex officers working side by side with national border guards.

1/ The Western Balkans are our neighbours. And in 2025, Montenegro made more progress on its path to EU accession than ever before. This demonstrates that with political will and a clear drive for reform, Montenegro can achieve its strategic goals.

Good meeting with Slovenian Defence Minister Borut Sajovic and his team in Ljubljana. European programmes and instruments as #EDIP, #SEAP, #EDPCIs are designed to help MSs to procure more effectively and together. We are ready to cooperate closely with Slovenia.
