New AMLA Board Member Chosen to Fight Money Laundering

Published December 18, 2025

Goal: Strengthen AML governance

The European Parliament voted to put Henrica Maria Verbeek‑Kusters on the Anti‑Money Laundering Authority board, so she’ll help the agency fight money‑laundering and terrorism funding.

On 18 December 2025, the European Parliament decided to appoint Henrica Maria Verbeek‑Kusters to the Executive Board of the Anti‑Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).

  • AMLA is a European agency that fights money‑laundering and terrorism financing.
  • The appointment follows the rules of Regulation (EU) 2024/1620, which say board members must be chosen for merit, skills, integrity and experience.
  • Parliament wants a gender‑balanced board, so it requested at least two qualified candidates.
  • On 12 November 2025 the Commission sent a shortlist that included Ms Verbeek‑Kusters.
  • On 2 December 2025, the relevant EU committees (Economic & Monetary Affairs and Civil Liberties) held a hearing with her.
  • On 9 December 2025, AMLA’s General Board approved her appointment and forwarded the proposal to Parliament.
  • The Parliament now approves her appointment and will send the decision to the Council, the Commission, AMLA and the member‑state governments.
