New Food Rules for Breakfast Foods
Published March 11, 2026
Goal: Clearer rules
The European Parliament issued a correction to Directive 2024/1438 that changes the rules for honey, fruit juices, spreads, chestnut puree and dehydrated milk by removing a sub‑point, updating references, and adding new criteria about overheating and pollen removal.
The European Parliament issued a correction to Directive (EU) 2024/1438, which amends earlier EU rules on honey, fruit juices, fruit spreads, sweetened chestnut purée and dehydrated milk (Council Directives 2001/110/EC, 2001/112/EC, 2001/113/EC and 2001/114/EC).
The correction, made on 17 February 2026, changes Annex I of the directive:
- In point 2(b) the sub‑point (viii) is removed.
- The reference to that sub‑point in Annex II is replaced with a reference to “Annex I, point 3, fourth indent”.
- In point 3 of Annex I the third indent is replaced with two new bullet points:
– “have been overheated,”
– “have been obtained by removing foreign inorganic or organic matter in such a way as to result in the significant removal of pollen.”
