Tupperware Workers Receive €1.6 Million to Re‑enter the Workforce
Published March 11, 2026
Goal: Help workers find jobs
The EU’s resolution gives €1.6 million to help 267 Tupperware workers in Belgium find new jobs after the company went bankrupt, covering training, job‑search help and admin costs for up to two years.
The European Parliament and the Council have decided to give €1,622,650 from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help workers who lost their jobs at Tupperware General Services NV in Belgium.
Why the money is needed
- Tupperware filed for bankruptcy on 17 February 2025, leaving 267 workers in East‑Flanders without jobs.
- The company’s parent in the United States was taken over by creditors in October 2024, which caused the Belgian subsidiary to become financially unsustainable.
- The layoffs meet the EGF rule that a company must have at least 200 workers lose their jobs in four months to qualify for aid.
What the money will cover
- €1,843,500 for personalised support services that help the workers find new jobs, such as training, job‑search help, and career counselling.
- €65,500 for preparation, management, information, publicity, control and reporting activities.
- The total cost is €1,909,000; the EU will cover 85 % of it.
How the aid will be used
- The aid starts from the date the workers began receiving support (17 February 2025) and lasts for 24 months after the decision is made.
- Administrative costs for running the programme are covered for 31 months from that date.
- The aid is aimed at getting workers back into decent, sustainable jobs quickly, especially in a greener and more digital economy.
Other points
- The decision stresses that the aid should not replace responsibilities that companies already have under national law.
- It calls for fast decision‑making so that future requests can be processed more quickly.
- The aid will be monitored and evaluated to make sure it is used properly and that the workers benefit.
- The decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will take effect from the date of publication.
