EU Border Guard Gets Permission to Work in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The European Parliament passed a resolution that lets the EU Border Guard Agency operate in Bosnia and Herzegovina and told EU leaders to forward the decision to the Council, Commission, and the governments and parliaments of the EU and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On 21 January 2026 the European Parliament adopted resolution P10_TA(2026)0011. It gives its consent to the EU‑Bosnia and Herzegovina agreement (draft decision 16666/2024, draft agreement 16665/2024) that allows the European Border and Coast Guard Agency to operate in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The resolution follows EU treaty articles 77(2), 79(2) and 218(6) and the Parliament’s rules 107(1) and (4) and 117(7). It also incorporates the recommendation of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (A10‑0248/2025). The Parliament instructs its President to forward the decision to the Council, the Commission, and the governments and parliaments of EU member states and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
