291 votes against 241. The euthanasia law was finally adopted, despite the shift of many deputies over the past weeks. Just a few months ago, everything seemed to suggest that this text would be adopted without difficulty, carried by the usual media doxa. Yet, as the debate progressed, our arguments sowed doubt, made certainties waver, and sometimes even overturned convictions. We were short a few weeks to convince a majority. This battle leaves us with a precious lesson. For this subject as for many others, we must no longer resign ourselves to timidity but fully engage in every debate, without delay. Too often, the opinion seems majoritarian simply because it has never been confronted by our dissenting voice, sometimes full of modesty. To all parliamentarians, IDL, of course, but also UDR, RN, LR, centrists and even some left‑wing deputies who refused to yield and defended the dignity of life until the end, thank you.
