Michelin announces the elimination of 1,500 jobs in France. On several occasions over the past years, the CEO of the national tire champion, Florent Menegaux, had warned the national representatives: for Michelin, as well as for many other industrial groups, producing in France has become a loss‑making activity. While more than a quarter of the group's workforce is employed in the Hexagon, its activity accounts for less than 10 % of its total turnover. Manufacturing tires in France costs nearly twice as much as in Asia.
