EU in 2024 adopted binding rules to strengthen the independence of institutions protecting equality and human rights – the government is moving in the opposite direction. Dividing the human rights agenda among ministries is not “streamlining the state”, but a targeted weakening of institutions that guard democratic standards and are a counterweight to power.
