📵 France with a ban hammer on social media On Monday, the French National Assembly voted to ban social media for those under 15 years old. Through an expedited procedure, the law is to take effect already in September. While supporters on the government side again argue with child protection, experts express clear criticism. Kai Hanke from the German Children's Aid spoke out strongly against such a ban: “Flat‑rate bans disempower children and adolescents and are in stark contradiction to their right to digital participation guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as the development of media competence.” On a political level, critics also fear other consequences. Many young people use social networks to inform themselves outside of mainstream media. If they are deprived of this possibility, they are again trapped in the claws of the system. Moreover, the ban would likely affect not only young people. Numerous commentators point out that such a law would only be enforceable if the state clearly knows who is behind each account. Anonymity on the internet would thus be history forever. The direction is also similar in Austria and the Federal Republic. AUF1 reported here and here. 👉🏻 Follow us on Telegram: @auf1tv
